Is Sign Language a universal language?
What I mean is are the common signs, for example, mom, dad, happy, sad, the same in sign language around the world?
It is not universal – they are very different from country to country. Even within countries there can be some regional differences, just like there are with spoken languages.
The website below has some more information on this, but you have to scroll down a little ways. They even show different signs for mom (one of the examples you used) in different countries.
